Mr. Kariuki is a passionate teacher and an accomplished assistant lecturer at the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology at Multimedia University of Kenya where he is known best as “Teacher Karis”.
With over eight years of teaching experience, Kariuki holds a Master of Science in Distributed and Computing Technology from the University of Nairobi and a First Class Honors Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Technology from Multimedia University of Kenya. He is also a certified Huawei Routing & Switching Instructor (HCAI) and has industry certifications in Huawei Certified ICT Associate (HCIA) – Routing & Switching, Huawei Certified ICT Professional (HCIP) – Routing & Switching, Designing and Deploying Computer Networks (ISOC) and Google IT Support.
Kariuki’s area of expertise is in Internet of Things and Internet Technologies. Throughout his teaching career, he has been passionate about mentoring students and has worked tirelessly to develop their ideas into successful prototypes. As the Patron to the student led Computing and Information Technology club at Multimedia University, Kariuki has invited and hosted key industry players like KENIC, ICANN, Microsoft, IBM, Google, Intel, Africa Hackon, Internet Society, Dot Africa, Huawei, among others, to train and mentor students on the trending ICT topics.
Kariuki is an enthusiastic techie with deep tech industry knowledge. He has championed matters of Internet Governance in Kenya and beyond, and is a KICTANet (Kenya ICT Action Network) associate and a trainer and an alumnus of the Kenya School of Internet Governance (KeSIG). He was part of the organizing team for the 2017 and 2018 Kenya Internet Governance Forum, and in 2020, he was involved as a research assistant in carrying out a “County ICT Survey,” a partnership between KICTANet and ICT Authority (ICTA). He was the lead trainer in 2022 of the successful “Kenya Designing and Deploying Computer Networks” Pilot Project.
Embracing the core values of research, innovation, and career growth, Kariuki is currently pursuing a PhD in Information Systems at the University of Nairobi. His research focuses on the topic of Internet of Things, and he hopes to make significant contributions to the field. Kariuki’s dedication to his work and passion for his field of study make him a valuable asset to the academic community and beyond.
