In March 2019, Multimedia University of Kenya established a National Institute for Optics & Lasers (NIOL). This happened as a result of an infrastructure grant by the National Research Fund (NRF) to the University to establish a National Center for Training and Research in Optics and Lasers.
The National Institute for Optics and Lasers will train students in the area of Optics and Lasers at certificate, diploma, undergraduate and Postgraduate levels and conduct research in the same discipline. Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) refers to education and training that focuses on the acquisition of practical skills and knowledge needed for a particular trade or occupation. TVET programs typically combine theoretical instruction with hands-on learning experiences, often in a workplace or industry setting.
The MMU TVET department offers Diploma courses in different fields with the aim of imparting technical skills to our students. The department has entrenched Quality Management System (QMS) as a tool to ensure quality service to our students.
