MMU pays condolence visit to family of the late Sylvia Kemunto

MMU top leadership led by Chairman of Council Dr. Albert Kochei yesterday paid a condolence visit to mama Triza Kemunto at her place of residence in Kawangware in Nairobi to continue condoling with her over the death of her daughter, Miss Sylvia Kemunto.

Dr. Kochei, who was accompanied by Ag. Vice Chancellor Prof. Geoffrey Rurimo, Ag. Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof. Livingstone Ngoo and Dean of Students Dr. Paul Obonyo, in his words of consolation to the family, regretted the unfortunate event, saying that the entire MMU fraternity is saddened by the loss of Sylvia Kemunto and assured the family that university will support them to the end.

“We’ve come here, as the leadership of MMU to condole with the family of our late sister, our student, Sylvia Sylvia. Indeed, it is very hard. It’s heartbreaking and shocking for even as MMU community to have lost a very bright girl, very bright daughter of this family, a daughter that, I believe the mother had a lot of expectation, that perhaps after graduating, she would be able to change the living standard of the family. And therefore, I have come to deliver a condolence message from MMU family, and we are very sorry. We’ve communicated with the family that on behalf of the university, we apologize,” said Dr. Kochei.

Dr. Kochei added, “We are very sorry for what happened. We would not have wished that we are coming here today, to pass a word of condolences. Indeed, it could have been the day that you’re coming to celebrate the graduation of the late Sylvia. But, we condemn, the act that took away the life of a very young girl, who was promising both to the family and indeed to the country. We have assured the family again that, the university is doing whatever it takes to ensure that we lessen the burden during this tragic pain.

Dr, Kochei said that the university will join the family in Kisii County on Friday, for the burial. “We continue praying for the family that the Lord is going to give them the comfort and the strength, to be able to overcome the pain of losing their daughter.

He reiterated that the university will continuously ensure that there is sufficient security for the students, staff and the community of the institution while urging the students to ensure that they take necessary precaution to ensure that they do not engage with anybody with questionable background.

Sylvia Kemunto was  studying Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Computer Science in the Faculty of Science and Technology. She was in her first year of study.
