Journalist Ejiro Umukoro delivers talk to MMU students

Ejiro Umukoro, popularly known as “Lady E,” a distinguished multi-award-winning broadcaster, investigative journalist, and author, paid a courtesy visit to Multimedia University, where she delivered an insightful talk on climate change and the critical role of the media in shaping the narrative.

Ms. Umukoro, a nominee for the prestigious ICFJ Knight International Journalism Award and an awardee and fellow of the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism’s Report Women initiative, engaged the Faculty of Media students in a thought-provoking discussion.

She emphasized the pivotal role of journalists in leading conversations on climate change and explored practical solutions to mitigate its effects.

During the session, Ms. Mwara, a renowned animation designer at Multimedia University, also delivered a brief presentation on Almasi, a collaborative project she is currently developing in partnership with media students specializing in film production and animation.

As a mentor with the ICIR-MacArthur Foundation Capacity Building for Journalists program, Ms. Umukoro further contributed to the academic community by donating her book, Distortion, to the Multimedia University Library.

The book challenges prevailing cultural norms and beliefs surrounding climate change, encouraging critical discourse and action.
