MMU rolls out students’ HELB smart cards payment solution

Multimedia university of Kenya has rolled out the issuance of smart cards to its students in compliance with the government’s directive on implementation of the card in all universities in the country by September this year.

The implementation of the card is meant to ensure effective service delivery and efficient management of funds that have been invested in the education sector by the government.

Speaking at the university when he received the smart cards from the KCB, Registrar Academic Affairs Dr. Joash Mulabe said the first batch of the cards will be issued to the students who were admitted in May 2019 intake while new students reporting in September 2019, will receive their cards during the September –December semester after submitting required information.

Dr. Mulabe also revealed that the smart card is a multiple wallet card which will also be used for other general purposes apart from fee payment.

“The smart card will not only be used for fee payment, but also for other services such as payment for meals, pocket money, student identification, and also, as a requirement in accessing various services within the university,” said Dr. Mulabe.

The Registrar thanked the KCB, represented by Senior Corporate Relationship Manager Institutional Banking Mr. David Kemei and Transaction Banking Manager Ms. Winnie Swyowai for helping the university in implementing the smart cards payment solution and at the same time urged them to ensure quality and efficiency  in the production of the cards.

The implementation of the smart cards come as HELB moves to scrap bank account loan disbursements to seal leakages and improve efficiency in serving the students countrywide.
